Why use a shower filter?
Here are a couple of common reasons to use a shower filter like ShowerPro Diamond:
- Your Tap water at home tastes and smells of chlorine (Note: Most tap water is disinfected with chlorine)
- Potential cancerogenic chlorine byproducts such as THMs could form in the shower from hot tap water
- Limescale formation in the shower
- Shower water smells bad
- Lead pipes in your home
- Hard water (read more about hard water)
- Old boiler / water heater that causes the hot water to sometimes be brownish
- Dry skin and hair (the shower water could contribute to this
If you are experiencing one or more of these issues then you should consider getting a high quality shower water filter.
The only independently tested and certified shower water filter
There are many shower filters claiming to reduce chlorine by 99%, water hardness and to better for skin and hair thanks to vitamin C infusion. But do they have any scientific evidence to support this?
At Tappwater we take water testing very seriously and all claims related to ShowerPro Diamond are proven by independent lab tests and certifications. We use high quality KDF-55 to filter chlorine and 70+ other unwanted substances at high pressure and temperatures.

Benefits of a shower filter for your skin and hair
Does your skin get dry or itchy after showering? Do you experience dandruff or other hair issues? Does the shower water smell bad?
Shower filters can offer several benefits, including:
- Skin Rejuvenation: Common substances in tap water like lead and chlorine can cause severe dry skin. Shower filters can help neutralize these substances, keeping your skin naturally moisturized. (Source: https://toiletsguide.com/shower-filter-benefits/)
- Hair Repair: Hard water contains a high concentration of minerals that can accumulate in the hair, causing it to lose brightness and softness. Shower filters can help combat this. (Source: https://wellnessmama.com/natural-home/shower-filter/)
- Health Protection: By filtering out harmful substances like chlorine, lead, and chromium, shower filters can help protect against long-term health issues such as cancer and birth defects. (Source: https://www.waterev.com/benefits-of-shower-filters/)
- Reduced Chlorine Absorption: Showering in chlorinated water can lead to more chlorine absorption than drinking chlorinated water (Source: https://wellnessmama.com/natural-home/shower-filter/) . Shower filters can effectively reduce chlorine levels (Source: https://toiletsguide.com/shower-filter-benefits/.)
- Slows Your Skin’s Aging Process: Human skin dries out and gets thinner as we age. It’s a natural part of the aging process. Showering in hard water dries out the skin and may also increase the chances of the formation of free radicals. Free radicals form when a cell loses an electron, and it can set off a chain reaction of damage that can age and damage skin. (Source: https://www.harpersbazaar.com/uk/beauty/skincare/a32738982/can-tap-water-damage-skin/)
- Improved Complexion: Shower filters can help maintain a youthful and radiant complexion, alleviating premature wrinkles and fine lines (Source: https://wellnessmama.com/natural-home/shower-filter/)
These benefits can contribute to improved health and well-being. However, the effectiveness of a shower filter will depend on the shower filter, quality of your local water supply and the specific contaminants it contains. Always make sure the shower filter you choose is independently tested and certified.
High capacity refills
For drinking water a 1000 L refill can last 3 months. However, one single shower of 5 min can consume 75-100 liters of water (source: https://www.ariston.com/en-me/the-comfort-way/news/how-much-water-is-consumed-for-a-shower) Ariston Group) which means 4500 liters of shower water per month for a 2 person household that takes a 5 min shower every day.
We’ve thoroughly tested ShowerPro Diamond for filtration of the specified substances up to 20,000 liters. Typically the filtration efficiency will degrade for limescale and around 10-12,000 liters whereas we can no longer guarantee that the filter works.
Curious fact: Some shower filters claim 20-50,000 liters of filtration but without sharing any proof that this is really the case. Don’t trust such claims without independent lab tests.
ShowerPro Diamond Technology
We started testing developing shower filters in 2017 and have refined the efficiency of the filtration ever since.
ShowerPro Diamond includes our latest 4-Stage microfiltration technology with these stages:
1. KDF-55
Copper-zinc water filtration is a high-purity brass water filtration process that relies on the redox potential of dissolved oxygen in water in the presence of a zinc anode and copper cathode. The main advantage of KDF is that it manages to reduce Chlorine and some fungi with hot water under high pressure. KDF-55 is the only independently proven technology for filtration of hot water with high pressure.
2. Calcium Sulfite
CaSO3 shower filter balls can remove 90% of chlorine from shower water with a surface time of as little as 0.8 seconds. This works in combination with KDF-55.
3. Mineral balls (Crystal quartz)
Crystal quartz mineral balls with negative ion mineralisation are claimed to provide smoother skin, reduce oil secretion and increase cell viability. This is not independently verified. Read more about crystal quartz.
4. Limescale inhibitor
Our proprietary formula that reduces limescale by 80% by inhibiting the limescale from forming.
Note: This gives the perception of softer water although it does not reduce water hardness or TDS. To our knowledge there is no shower filter that reduces water hardness unless salt is added.
Conclusion about ShowerPro Diamond
If you are looking to improve your skin and hair and reduce exposure to potentially bad shower water contaminants then ShowerPro Diamond is the product for you.
