At Tappwater, we believe in innovation as a driver capable of changing our daily consumption habits and so protecting current and future generations.
Single-use plastic bottles and bottled water production are damaging our ecosystems, endangering marine life and polluting the food chain.
Our mission is to create easy-to-use, sustainable and affordable products that eliminate the need for bottled water.
Common objectives for a better future
At Tappwater we believe that one of the best ways to solve the problem of pollution caused by plastic is by collaborating with other organizations that have the same purpose as us.
Plastic Oceans is a non-profit organization with the goal of fostering sustainable communities around the world by acting locally to create global change through four key pillars: education, activism, advocacy and science.
Gravity Wave is a social enterprise that cleans our seas and oceans. With local fishermen, we contribute to removing plastic from the Mediterranean Sea.
Tree-nation is a platform to reforest the world and fight against climate change. With them we offset all the CO2 we generate.
Did you know that 30 million plastic bottles are thrown away in Spain every day?
Once they reach the ocean, those plastic bottles take around 500 years to decompose. During that time they harm marine life (affecting over 700 species!).
Did you know that excessive water use contributes to shortages worldwide?
Making 1 kg of plastic requires around 2,000 litres of water. That's an enormous amount! Especially when you consider that only 0.5% of the world's water is available to us to meet both all our needs and all those of the ecosystem.
Did you know that the environmental impact of a three-person household's bottled water consumption over a year is estimated to be equivalent to 274 kg of carbon emissions?
Producing a kilogram of new plastic generates around 3.5 kg of CO2. For example, over the course of a year a 3-person household generates approximately 274 kg of carbon emissions from bottled water consumption alone. With TAPP Water that figure is cut to just 3 kg. If you want to learn more, there's more information about bottled water's environmental footprint here.
Why did we embark on our mission?
Nature, recycling and health impact of plastics
Have you ever arrived at a beach, park, river or other natural place of beauty and found it full of plastic bottles, bags, cans and other trash? Did you ever look at your recycling bins at home shocked about the amount of single-use plastic we use? Do you worry about the health impact of the amount of plastic products we consume drinks and food every day?
In 2016 over 500 billion plastic bottles were consumed worldwide with an enormous impact in terms of plastic pollution and carbon footprint. What if there was a better solution?
How can we help?
Rocio from Spain, Magnus from Sweden, Alex from Germany and Jeff from Luxembourg founded Tappwater in 2017 in Barcelona, Spain with a mission of eliminating the need for bottled water. We do this by providing simple, affordable and sustainable products to homes worldwide for clean tasty tap water.
What does it mean for you?
By using our products you will save money (>€240 per year), avoid carrying home 1000 kg of water per year, improve your health (avoid consuming microplastics) and help reduce human impact on the planet.
How are we doing?
By October 2023 our customers have offset over 100 million plastic bottles. That’s more than 400 football fields covered by plastic bottles. But this is only the beginning. Our target is to avoid 10 billion bottles by 2027.
Today our products are available in more than 50 countries directly from Tappwater and through our partners.
