Making fruit water is a very refreshing and healthy way to enjoy natural flavors. Below, we leave you the basic recipe for its preparation:
Ingredients
- Fresh fruits of each person's choice.
- Filtered water
- Sweeteners (optional)
- Ice (optional)
Steps to follow for the fruit water recipe
- We wash the fruits and cut them into smaller pieces. If you use citrus fruits such as lemons or oranges, squeeze the juice instead of cutting them into pieces.
- Fill a pitcher with filtered water. The amount of water will depend on the amount of fruit water you want to make and the degree of concentration you want.
- Add the cut fruits to the jug of water.
- If you want to sweeten the fruit water, you can add sweeteners according to your choice. How much you add will depend on your personal preferences. You can start by adding a small amount and then add more if you wish.
- To give it a more refreshing touch you can add ice to the jug.
- Optionally, you can add some mint or peppermint leaves that give it additional flavor.
- Stir the mixture well in the jar and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving, so the flavors can blend.
- After that, you can now serve the fruit water in glasses, and add additional slices of fresh fruits if you wish.
How long does fruit water last in the refrigerator?
Fruit water can usually be stored in the refrigerator for 1 or 2 days. However, we must keep in mind that both its flavor and freshness will decrease over time.
Fresh fruits release their flavors into the water over time, so at first the flavor of this drink will be very intense, however, after a day or two pass, the flavor may become milder.
If you want to keep the fruit water for longer, you can strain the fruits after a couple of hours of rest, and store only the liquid in the refrigerator. With this we can help prolong the useful life of the drink for a little longer without having the fruits inside and, therefore, without affecting its flavor.
However, it is always recommended that we consume fruit water within 2 days of its preparation in order to guarantee its quality and freshness. If you notice any change in the smell, taste or appearance of this drink, the best thing you can do is discard it to avoid possible food safety problems.
