How to make the perfect lemonade drink for the Lemon Water Diet? And other beverages for the detox
Lemon water diet, although not a new detox, has been gaining a lot of popularity recently. The lemon water diet consists in eliminating solid foods and cleansing your body from toxins.
Replacing all solid foods means one thing: going a water-based diet. The lemon water diet is usually accompanied by two other beverages: a salt water flush, and a herbal laxative tea.
While this article is not intended to give instruction on how to run your diet - you should make sure you are in the right physical conditions - we want to share our tips on how to make the most delicious lemon water, salt water flush and peppermint tea.
The Water
The water that you use is key in this diet. Firstly because that's pretty much all you'll be digesting during the days you undergo your diet; and secondly because given that you are about to flush yourself from all toxins, your water shouldn't be carrying unwanted contaminants.
Using bottled water, will not only cost you hundreds of dollars, it will contribute to the ongoing plastic pollution crisis. The best, most affordable and the most sustainable solution is to use a water filter. Using an activated carbon filter will get rid of Chlorine, Lead, Pesticides, Microplastics along with 80+ other contaminants. Moreover, activated carbon lets the healthy minerals such as Calcium, Magnesium, and Potassium through, so you can be sure to stay mineralized during your flush.
Lemon Water
This is the main drink you'll be having throughout your detox cleanse. Mix all the following ingredients together
a pinch of cayenne pepper: metabolic booster
a tablespoon of maple syrup: energy
the juice of ½ a lemon: antioxidant
8 ounces of lukewarm filtered water
Salt Water Flush
This drink is recommended in the morning, on an empty stomach
two teaspoons (not tablespoons) of non-iodized salt
a quart of lukewarm filtered water
Peppermint Tea
This last drink can be drunk throughout the day.
boil 3 to 4 cups of filtered water
add 1/2 cup of dry or fresh peppermint leaf and shut the heat off
let it steep for 5 minutes
pour through a strainer
add 2-3 tablespoons of honey
Reusable water bottle
You will be drinking a lot of water, and carrying around with you all day. You should use a reusable bottle (or even a few), instead of filling up a plastic bottle. Single-use plastic bottles are not intended to be refilled, and it could be dangerous for you to drink out of it, especially given the corrosive properties of lemon.
The best filter in your quest to help the environment is TAPP, which is the world's first water filter with biodegradable refills. They can be disposed of with organic waste.
This way you are doing good for your body, and the planet.
