What advantages does it have over filter pitchers?
Few things are as annoying as being thirsty and going to the kitchen to get water, only to find that someone has forgotten to fill the filter pitcher. TAPP Water users never have that bother, however, because their filtered water comes straight from the tap. And it comes out instantly, with the ability to choose between filtered and non-filtered water with just the turn of a small switch. Our tap water filter lasts 3 times as long, filters 15 times as much water, and uses advanced technology to eliminate even microplastics and heavy metals. Because of this, the water tastes much better. In addition, our annual subscription is cheaper than the most popular filter pitchers. What’s the filters’ absorption capacity?
Each filter highly effectively removes the chemicals from 1200–1500 liters of water (depending on original water quality), the equivalent of 3 months of average household water usage. We recommend replacing the cartridge after 3 months even if you haven't filtered 1200-1500 liters. This is because the filters become saturated with contaminants over time and there is a risk of bacterial growth after 3 months. This happens with all activated carbon filters.

What should I do if I’m not sure if the filter is compatible with my tap?
Our system is compatible with 95% of round taps with threaded spouts (which is what the filter attaches to). It isn't compatible with round taps with extendible hoses, or with any of the following models:

Can I drink the tap water in Spain?
Yes, at least 99.5% of all public tap water in Spain is safe to drink according to international water quality standards. But there are issues such as taste, odor chlorine by-products, nitrates microplastics and local pipe contaminants. Therefore "safe" public tap water may not be safe for infants, pregnant women and people with health conditions. A high quality water filter such as TAPP Water will prevent all of these issues and always provide tasty clean tap water. Read more about tap water in Spain.

The filter removes fluoride?
TAPP Water filters reduce up to 80% of Fluoride. Fluoride is the result of water passage through rocks. Fluoride comes from fluorine, which is a common, natural, and abundant element. Fluoride is naturally present at low concentration in most fresh and saltwater sources, as well as in rainwater, particularly in urban areas. At its normal rate of 0.7-1.2 ppm, Fluoride reduces teeth cavities. Excessive exposure to fluoride has been linked to a number of health issues such as bone disease and parathyroid gland damage. The MAL is 4 mg/L for Europe and the US.

How does the subscription model work?
Your annual subscription consists of a first delivery of the housing and 4 cartridges that will give you 12 months of filtered water. Remember, you have to change the cartridge every 3 months to maintain water quality. At the end of the 12 months, your subscription will automatically renew. That means you'll receive 4 new cartridges for €59 a year after having made the first purchase. One week before your subscription renewal is due we'll send you an email reminder with the option of cancelling or suspending your subscription.

Do I need to remove the filter if I want unfiltered water?
No, you don't need to remove the filter. All you need to do is twist the little lever on the side of your filter to switch between filtered and unfiltered water.

Why do you use plastic in your filters?
After analysing the various materials and solutions available, we chose the type of plastic we use because it's the best option in terms of durability (meaning it's also the best in terms of sustainability). At TAPP Water, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. As well as reducing the number of plastic bottles used by customers who install our filters, we're also perpetually evolving and questioning the choices we make about materials and transport. In short, we're constantly looking at how to ensure that our value chain has the best possible impact on our planet. We know that we still have a long way to go and many challenges to overcome. But we're especially proud of: The materials we use to make the main part of the product (the filter itself) are long-lasting, highly recyclable and free of BPA and phthalates.
  • The materials used in the replaceable part of the product (the cartridges) are mostly naturally occurring and biodegradable, although they aren't treated as such in composting plants.
  • The block of activated carbon inside the cartridge — which is what filters the water — is made of coconut shell. This means that your water passes through a natural, organic material. Why don't we use stainless steel? For the moment, our aim is to create a solution that, in addition to being sustainable and easy to use, is also affordable. It has to be a solution that saves households money when compared with buying bottled water. Making the filter out of stainless steel would create a solution that would only be affordable for a few users, and at TAPP Water we want to make our products affordable for all and to reach as many households as possible to achieve a real impact.

Why should we stop buying bottled water? Isn’t it safer and better tasting?
It's safe and healthy to drink, and also much cheaper than bottled water. Tap water in Europe and North America is subject to regular and rigorous controls. TAPP Water filters remove substances found in distribution networks (like heavy metals in areas with old pipes), as well as chlorine, which can often make water taste unpleasant. What's more, filtered tap water is more environmentally friendly than bottled water. Bottled water's CO2 footprint comes not only from its production, but also from its transport and distribution. And finally, but no less importantly, TAPP Water filters make life so much easier, as you no longer have to carry heavy bottles of water home from the supermarket.

Does it remove limescale? / Does it remove calcium?
Filter cartridges effectively minimize limescale concentration. How? Basically there are two methods a)     remove the calcium and magnesium ions from the water, so that calcium and magnesium carbonates cannot form b)     prevent calcium and magnesium ions from forming calcium and magnesium carbonates. Method A: Water softeners using e.g. ion exchange resins, swap the calcium ions for sodium ions. This is why the water becomes salty. Water softeners typically separate out the calcium and magnesium ions as waste water. Method B: TAPP Water Our proprietary limescale inhibitor forms a complex with inorganic contaminants and prevents them from forming hard scale, staining, etc. It forms a protective coating of insoluble mineral scale in the coffee maker, tea kettle, water pitchers, etc. The positive thing is that Calcium and Magnesium does not get reduced and the water doesn’t taste salty. On the negative side you may still have some white grains/bubbles in the water from the Calcium and Magnesium ions.

Can I filter hot and cold water with my filter?
It's not advisable to use the filter with hot water. The materials in the replacement cartridge's housing aren't designed to withstand high temperatures and may melt. If you need hot water, simply twist the lever and use the water without filtering it.

What advantages does it have over osmosis?
Reverse osmosis is an amazing technological innovation that converts seawater into drinking water in areas around the world where freshwater is in short supply. What are filters made of?
The materials we use in our filters reflect our commitment to sustainability, quality and durability. The cartridge housing is made of ABS and PC plastic, which is free of BPA and phthalates and is manufactured from natural raw materials. The carbon block found inside the cartridge housing and which filters your water is made of coconut shells (70%) — which biodegrade in CO2 and water — and UHMW (30%) — which is inert and stable and doesn’t accumulate in marine life. Our product also contains two small silicone parts that hold the carbon block in place to ensure maximum filter efficiency. These parts decompose in amorphous silica, carbon dioxide and water.

How does the annual subscription model work?
Our goal is to make things easy for you, which is why we offer two annual subscription models. The only difference between them is the length of the initial subscription. Here are the details: - If you purchase a 12-month filtered water subscription you'll receive a filter and four replacement cartridges. As each cartridge lasts for 3 months, this subscription model guarantees you filtered water for an entire year. Fantastic, no? One year after your first purchase we'll send you a pack of 4 new cartridges to give you filtered water for another year. Here's an example: Laia purchases a 12-month filtered water subscription on 01/01/19. She receives a filter and 4 replacement cartridges (giving her 12 months of filtered water). One year later, on 01/01/20, we send her 4 new cartridges so that she has filtered water for another year. As regards the prices, the 12-month filtered water subscription costs €6.58/month (based on a single payment of €89).
  • Twelve months later, the pack of 4 cartridges providing water for another entire year only costs €59.

Why do I have to change the cartridge every 3 months?
Because the quality of your water and the efficiency of the filter’s filtration capacity can only be guaranteed for a usage capacity equivalent to 3 months. Our quality parameters for filtering substances and contaminants are above 95% in most cases (depending on the type of contaminant it is higher, for instance, with chlorine filtration efficiency is at 99%). The filtration of contaminants such as pesticides and herbicides, VOCs, and microplastics don’t meet our quality parameters after 3 months of usage. If you use your cartridge beyond 3 months, filtration efficiency will decay below our minimum standards. Besides the mentioned absorption and efficiency aspects, also keep in mind that carbon is an organically based material that provides a breeding ground for microorganisms on which bacteria can multiply over time. These bacteria build up behind the filter and contaminate the water in the pipe system. This is normal for all activated carbon filters, regardless of whether you live alone or with many people, or if the filter hasn’t been used for some time. A quick reminder in case you don't use the filter for a couple of days: flush for 30 seconds before consumption to avoid bacteria intake. How does the annual subscriptions’ lifetime guarantee work?
With an annual subscription, you have a lifetime guarantee. That means your filter is covered for as long as you’re a customer. If you haven't yet purchased an annual subscription, you're still covered by a guarantee, but in this case it's for 1 year. In the unlikely case that your product needs replacing during an active Annual Subscription, TAPP Water will replace it free of charge provided you follow the product return instructions. Annual subscriptions are active from the date of purchase or renewal of the 12-month subscription. (For example: “12-month Pack with Annual Subscription” purchase date: 12 April 2019. Active Annual Subscription period: from 12 April 2019 to 11 April 2020). Annual Subscriptions with a status of “paused” are included. In these cases, the active Annual Subscription period is simply extended for the amount of time the Annual Subscription maintains this status (a maximum of 3 months). Users who cancel their Annual Subscription forfeit the right to the lifetime guarantee 12 months from the date of purchase.

Is your product defective? This is the TAPP Water guarantee
All of our products pass strict quality control tests before they are sent to our customers. We offer a guarantee on all our products, with the length of the guarantee depending on the type of product:
  • Annual Pack with Subscription: Lifetime guarantee provided that the subscription is ongoing.
  • Starter Pack/3 months: 1 year guarantee
  • Replacement cartridges: 1 year guarantee
A summary of the TAPP Water guarantee conditions can be found below. In the event of any discrepancy between this summary and the EULA, the EULA shall prevail. Local consumer protection laws may provide additional guarantees. The TAPP Water guarantee does not in any way limit the rights you may have in accordance with these regulations. The TAPP Water guarantee covers material and manufacturing defects for any TAPP Water product for the stated period of time from the date of purchase on the TAPP Water website or the date of purchase at a TAPP Water direct sales stand. TAPP Water does not guarantee that its products will:
  • operate without interruption
  • be free of faults or defects
If you have a valid claim under the TAPP Water guarantee and have returned the product according to the established procedure, we will replace the defective product at no cost. If we determine that the problem is not covered by the TAPP Water guarantee, we will notify you and inform you of the available service or replacement options. The guarantee period will not be extended if the product is replaced. The guarantee does not cover defects caused by customers. This applies particularly to cases of inappropriate use, improper handling or unauthorised attempts at repairs, especially:
  • problems due to external causes, such as accidents, misapplications or misuse;
  • use that does not comply with TAPP Water product instructions;
  • problems caused by the use of third-party accessories, pieces or components.

What’s the benefit of an annual subscription if I only want one filter?
You get a better deal. If you opt for the annual subscription you'll pay less than €8 a month for your water over the first year, and that sum will drop to just €5 a month from the second year onwards. As well as being the cheapest way of filtering your tap water, it's also the most practical and convenient.

Your annual subscription consists of a first delivery of the housing and 4 cartridges that will give you 12 months of filtered water. Remember, you have to change the cartridge every 3 months to maintain water quality. At the end of the 12 months, your subscription will automatically renew. One week before your subscription renewal is due we'll send you an email reminder with the option of cancelling or suspending your subscription.

How does the annual subscription model work?
Our goal is to make things easy for you, which is why we offer two annual subscription models. The only difference between them is the length of the initial subscription. Here are the details: - If you purchase a 12-month filtered water subscription you'll receive a filter and four replacement cartridges. As each cartridge lasts for 3 months, this subscription model guarantees you filtered water for an entire year. Fantastic, no? One year after your first purchase we'll send you a pack of 4 new cartridges to give you filtered water for another year. Here's an example: Laia purchases a 12-month filtered water subscription on 01/01/19. She receives a filter and 4 replacement cartridges (giving her 12 months of filtered water). One year later, on 01/01/20, we send her 4 new cartridges so that she has filtered water for another year. As regards the prices, the 12-month filtered water subscription costs €6.58/month (based on a single payment of €89).
  • Twelve months later, the pack of 4 cartridges providing water for another entire year only costs €59.
