Tabla de contenidos

Have you already received your shower filter at home and are wondering whether you can install it yourself without any hassle? The answer is yes – and here we’ll explain how to install a shower filter step by step so you can do it quickly, easily, and without the need for tools.

Most filters, such as the ShowerPro Diamond by Tappwater, are designed so that anyone can fit them in just a few minutes. However, there are a few details you should bear in mind to avoid leaks or incorrect installation.

Stay with us until the end to make sure your filter is perfectly fitted on the first try.

Can you install a shower filter without tools?

Yes. You don’t need any special tools. Tapp Water shower filters are designed for simple, manual installation. You only need your hands and to follow the instructions below.

What do you need before starting?

    Items included in the box

When you buy your Tapp Water shower filter, you will receive:

    • The filter body
    • Filter cartridge
    • Instruction manual
    • In some models, rubber washers or adaptors

Make sure you have all the parts before you begin.

Check compatibility with your tap or shower head

The filter is fitted between the water outlet and the shower head. The thread should be standard (G½”), which is the most common in Spain. If your shower has a different thread, you may need an adaptor (Tapp Water offers compatible adaptors on their website).

Clean the thread to prevent leaks

Before fitting anything, clean the threads on both the outlet and the shower head thoroughly. Remove any limescale or old tape to ensure a proper seal.

    Step-by-step installation

    Now for the practical guide:

    1. Unscrew the shower head
Turn it anticlockwise. If it’s too tight, use a dry cloth to improve your grip.

    2. Fit the filter onto the thread
Screw the filter onto the water outlet by hand, without forcing it. If you feel it going on crooked, unscrew it and start again to align the threads properly.

    3. Attach the shower head to the filter
Screw the shower head onto the top of the filter, also by hand, until it feels secure.

    4. Turn on the water and check for leaks
Open the tap slowly. If water leaks from the joints, tighten slightly or check that the washer is correctly positioned.

    5. First use: let the water run for a few minutes
This activates the filter and removes any residual particles from the cartridge. It’s perfectly normal if the water initially looks slightly dark or bubbly.

What if the shower filter doesn’t fit properly?

    Solutions if there are leaks

    • Make sure the washers are correctly in place.
    • Clean the threads thoroughly.
    • Don’t overtighten – this can actually make things worse.

Adaptors or washers: when you need them

If the filter won’t screw in or sits crooked, you may need an adaptor. Tapp Water provides options for different types of showers, including non-standard threads and fixed shower models.

    Tips for a successful installation

    Common mistakes

    • Forcing the threads
    • Forgetting to insert the rubber washer
    • Not flushing the filter before first use

How to align the threads without forcing them

Hold the filter straight, turn it gently with your fingers a couple of times, and if you feel resistance or hear a crack, unscrew it and start again. Misaligned threads will cause leaks.

When should you check the installation again?

After 24 hours, check for any drips. It’s also a good idea to inspect the connections every time you replace the cartridge.
