EcoPro Tap Water Filter – Product Details

Thinking about buying a tap water filter? What makes EcoPro (previously known as TAPP 2) so special compared to other products? Who is it for, what does it filter and how does it work?

This article uses EcoPro to represent both EcoPro and EcoPro Compact using the same 5-stage microfiltration technology. The main difference is that EcoPro Compact cartridges are smaller and therefore need to be replaced more frequently.

What is the EcoPro Tap Water Filter?

EcoPro is faucet water filter using a 5-stage microfiltration system including coconut shell carbon block technology. The filter delivers great tasting and clean water removing over 100+ known contaminants. Each refill lasts up to 3 months.

What problems will EcoPro solve for you?

  1. Your tap water tastes bad/poorly due to chlorination, chloramination or other content in the tap water
  2. Your tap water may be contaminated / contain pollutants from old pipes (lead, copper, etc) and other issues with the public tap water source (nitrates, microplastics, PFAS, etc)*
  3. You want to remove contaminants but keep healthy minerals in the tap water

* Recommended for households with municipal tap water that is officially reported as drinkable / potable

We do not recommend EcoPro for

  • Badly contaminated tap water (especially bacteria and viruses)
  • Softening of hard water as it’s not a water softening filter

If you have such problems then visit our water filter guide.

How do I know that EcoPro works?

To learn more about water filters in general, read our article about how water filters work.

The reasons you can be confident that EcoPro faucet water filters specifically work are:

  • uses proven filtration technology (Activated Carbon) tested and certified by EPA, NSF, WHO to remove the listed contaminants
  • independently tested in the EU and US accordance with NSF testing criteria
  • tested in accordance with NSF 42 and 53

What are the benefits of EcoPro vs bottled water?

Convenient: Filtered water right out of the tap. Puts an end to carrying heavy water bottles, or having to wait for a pitcher to fill.

Easy to use: Installs in under a minute, without tools or a plumber.

Cleaner water: Filters microplastics and hormones commonly found in bottled water. Independently certified water filtering technology.

Reduces plastic waste: Good for the environment as it reduces plastic waste and CO2.

A detailed comparison shows that EcoPro filtered water is as healthy or healthier than bottled water.

What are the benefits of EcoPro vs other water filters?

What does EcoPro tap water filter remove?

Want healthy and fresh tap water? EcoPro filters over 100 contaminants, effectively reduces another 30 and moderately another 22. This includes Chlorine, heavy metals such as Lead, Cancerous bi-products from chlorine (VOCs), Microplastics, pesticides, petrochemical, most pharmaceuticals and more.

Note: Reduces limescale by more than 80% but does not remove healthy minerals such as magnesium, potassium and iron, which are important nutrients for our well being.

The carbon block technology used in EcoPro is highly effective at water treatment. It has immense surface area. A single pound of powdered activated carbon has a filtering surface area equivalent to 125 acres. It is the best known treatment for organic chemicals, VOCs, pesticides, herbicides, and chlorine and its by-products. It is also an unchallenged taste-and-odor improver and provides very high quality particulate filtration, down to 2-microns.

EcoPro removes chemicals by the process of adsorption (as opposed to absorption). Carbon attracts certain chemicals at the molecular level much in the way that a magnet attracts and holds metal filings. When the surfaces are full, the filter must be discarded.

This includes the following main categories:

  1. Organoleptic
  2. Bad odor
  3. Bad taste

Removes* 100+ contaminants:

  • Lead (NSF-53)
  • Copper
  • Free chlorine
  • PFAS ( FOA, PFOS, PFNA)
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Microplastics
  • Petrochemical products
  • Trichloroethylene (TCE)
  • Tetrachloroethene (PCE)
  • 32 known chlorine by-products (VOCs) such as THMs identified as potentially cancerous
  • 14 listed pesticides including Chlordane, Heptachlor, and Lindane
  • 12 listed herbicides including 2,4-D, Atrazine
  • * Note: The NTF definiton of "removes" is minimum 95% filtration at the maximum allowed level of the substance

Reduces 30+ contaminants:

  • 80% of limescale
  • 70% of heavy metals such as mercury
  • 70% of nitrates
  • 30-70% Arsenic and Asbestos
  • 90% Bacteria
  • Fluoride
  • Microbial cyst including giardia and cryptosporidium

Testing & Certifications

The EcoPro carbon blocks have been independently tested in accordance to NSF-42 and NSF-53. In addition to this we’ve performed multiple independent lab tests in Europe and North America for the products.

How does the EcoPro recyclable cartridges work?

EcoPro refill cartridges are made out of recyclable ABS plastic, coconut based activated carbon and other non-toxic materials which remain inert after decomposing. The cartridges can be separated so that the plastic can be recycled and the carbon block is inert and will break down on a landfill without any plastic residues.

Note, that the device itself (without the refills) is made out of highly recyclable ABS polymers, and can be disposed of with plastic waste.
