TAPP 2 Faucet Water Filter – Product Details

Thinking about buying a faucet water filter? What makes TAPP 2 so special compared to other products? Who is it for, what does it filter and how does it work?

What is TAPP 2?

TAPP 2 Faucet Water Filter – Product Details

TAPP 2 is faucet water filter using coconut shell carbon block technology for better tasting and clean water removing over 80+ known contaminants. Each refill lasts up to 3 months.

What problems will TAPP 2 solve for you?

  1. Your tap water tastes bad/poorly due to chlorination, chloramination or other content in the tap water
  2. Your tap water may be contaminated / contain pollutants from old pipes (lead, copper, etc) and other issues with the public tap water source (nitrates, microplastics, PFAS, etc)*
  3. You want to remove contaminants but keep healthy minerals in the tap water

* Recommended for households with municipal tap water that is officially reported as drinkable / potable

We do not recommend TAPP 2 for

  • Badly contaminated tap water (especially bacteria and viruses)
  • Softening of hard water as it’s not a water softening filter

If you have such problems then visit our water filter guide.

How do I know that TAPP 2 works?

To learn more about water filters in general, read our article about how water filters work.

The reasons you can be confident that TAPP 2 faucet water filters specifically work are:

What does TAPP 2 faucet water filter remove?

Want healthy and fresh tap water? TAPP 2 removes over 80 contaminants, effectively reduces another 30 and moderately another 22. This includes Chlorine, heavy metals such as Lead, Cancerous bi-products from chlorine (VOCs), Microplastics, pesticides, petrochemical, most pharmaceuticals and more.

Note: Does not remove healthy minerals such as magnesium, potassium and iron, which are important nutrients for our well being.

The carbon block technology used in TAPP 2 is highly effective at water treatment. It has immense surface area. A single pound of powdered activated carbon has a filtering surface area equivalent to 125 acres. It is the best known treatment for organic chemicals, VOCs, pesticides, herbicides, and chlorine and its by-products. It is also an unchallenged taste-and-odor improver and provides very high quality particulate filtration, down to 2-microns.

TAPP 2 removes chemicals by the process of adsorption (as opposed to absorption). Carbon attracts certain chemicals at the molecular level much in the way that a magnet attracts and holds metal filings. When the surfaces are full, the filter must be discarded.

This includes the following main categories:

  1. Organoleptic
  2. Bad odor
  3. Bad taste

Removes 80+ contaminants:

  • 95% lead removal (NSF-53)
  • 95% of copper
  • 95% of free chlorine
  • 90% chloride reduction
  • 90% PFOA
  • 90% PFOS
  • 90% PFNA
  • 90% of Pharmaceuticals
  • 100% of Microplastics
  • Petrochemical products
  • Trichloroethylene (TCE)
  • Tetrachloroethene (PCE)
  • 32 known chlorine by-products (VOCs) such as THMs identified as potentially cancerous
  • 14 listed pesticides including Chlordane, Heptachlor, and Lindane
  • 12 listed herbicides including 2,4-D, Atrazine

Reduces 30+ contaminants:

  • 70% of heavy metals such as mercury
  • 70% of nitrates
  • 30-70% Arsenic and Asbestos
  • Sodium
  • Calcium (Limescale)
  • Fluoride
  • Microbial cyst including giardia and cryptosporidium
  • Bacteria & Viruses

Testing & Certifications

The TAPP 2 carbon blocks have been independently tested in accordance to NSF-42 and NSF-53. In addition to this we’ve performed multiple independent lab tests in Europe and North America for the products.

How does the TAPP 2 recyclable cartridges work?

TAPP 2 refill cartridges are made out of recyclable ABS plastic, coconut based activated carbon and other non-toxic materials which remain inert after decomposing. The cartridges can be separated so that the plastic can be recycled and the carbon block is inert and will break down on a landfill without any plastic residues.

Note, that the device itself (without the refills) is made out of highly recyclable ABS polymers, and can be disposed of with plastic waste.

    1. For brushing your teeth and cooking definitely. If you boil the water you can definitely use for drinking as well. Most likely it’s safe without boiling as well. For showering no.

    1. Hi Bek!
Fluoride is a natural compound found most fresh water sources, tea, vegetables and fruit. It’s not considered a contaminant although we are aware that some people are concerned about the health effects. TAPP 2 reduces fluoride by 30-70% based on independent lab tests. Many water filters claim fluoride removal but in reality we’ve found that reverse osmosis is the only effective way to reduce fluoride by 95% or more.
      Hope this helps!
      Best regards,
      The TAPP Water team

  1. First I was really impressed when I was reading the results of TAPP2 test, especcially with regard to micorplastics. Later I saw the notes under the table:

**** Microplastics count is based on Orb Media’s 2017 report concluding that 94% of US Tap Water contains microplastics or anthropogenic (man-made substances). We’ve used the average amount of particles found per gallon. The smallest particles were found to be 2.7 micron but most considerably larger. Therefore our testing has concluded that all microplastics particles found according to this test will be filtered by TAPP 2. Therefore 0 particles remain after filtering. The majority of the particles were fibers (98.3%) between 0.1–5 mm in length. The range was 0 to 232 particles/Gallon, with an overall mean of 21 particles/Gallon. The report also found that bottled water contained even more microplastics.

I am not sure if I understand it correct. Are the measurements done in order to detect microplastics or is it an assumption that 0 particles would remain after filtering?

    1. Hi Lena,

Apologies for slow response to your comment. We’ve done tests showing that all microplastics detected were removed. However, there is no standardised way of doing testing for microplastics and yet. Therefore labs will not certify microplastics removal. We are working with several universities to change this in 2020 so hope to be able to publish a more thorough lab report.

    1. Apologies for slow response. Yes, it fits 95% of all European faucets out of the box and more with our free additional adapters. The carbon block is very effective in removing pharmaceuticals and hormones. Based on lab tests at least 98%.

  2. Looking at various filters to remove microplastics. Love this concept. Not sure it will fit my current Kohler faucet. It has a pull out spray head. If someone could get back to me that would be great.

    Thank you,

    1. Hi Robert,

If you can unscrew the aerator on your spray head it will fit. However, it’s not ideal to use faucet filters with spray heads. In your case it’s probably better to install a good inline activated carbon filter under the sink instead.

But feel free to try it out and just return the filter if it doesn’t work.

  3. Does it work on low pressure systems? The hot water to my kitchen mixer is gravity fed therefore about 0.5bar …

    1. Hi Nicky,

Yes. 0.5 bar will be sufficient. But you really should only filter the cold water and not the hot water. Let us know if you have more questions.

  4. Can we order the Tapp2 to Australia and how much is it along with the shipping? Very keen to get one of these.
